FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE      March 25, 2013

Stratford, ON – Avonova, Stratford’s technology association, is hosting a pair of presentations and a Q&A panel for a look at how Stratford’s traditional manufacturing base is being transformed by ICT … to the point that we now have a digitally-skilled labour shortage and one of Canada’s highest employment rates. NOTE: This month’s meeting is back at the Stratford Country Club, in the President’s Room, Tuesday, April 2nd, 7-9PM.

After some mingling and a few Avonova updates, two local industrial change makers will present their experiences and perspectives on the digital reinvention of manufacturing in Stratford, and how their companies are leveraging digital technology and Internet connectivity to build their operations, generate new employment, and keep Stratford’s economy healthy and competitive:

Michael McCourt of D&D Automation started his business 25 years ago, “Just three guys with an idea and 20-pound laptops.” D&D now employs 50 employees in and around Stratford, North Carolina’s technology triangle, and … France!

Dan Taylor of Florida Plastics Engineering opened his company’s 6th location in Stratford just two years ago as a pilot project to develop hyper-connected auto parts manufacturing and real-time inventory controls that can be rolled out in FPE’s other 5 US plants.

The public is invited. Admission is free. The bar isn’t.

Next month: Tue.May7th: The Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics returns as a follow-up to one of last year’s most popular Avonova meetings.
